Registered Clubs have a long and proud tradition in Australia and offer one of the largest employment bases in NSW. Like hotels they have a great variety of styles.

Community, Social, RSL, Ex-services etc
Leagues, Soccer, Rugby, Golf , Bowls and other sporting
Small and local
Massive Clubs that employ near a thousand staff
Some are very traditional - others very modern

Clubs also have a more structured and community-responsible approach to business. They donate a large part of their profits back to community, welfare and sporting organisations. In fact, hundreds of millions of gambling dollars make their way back into the community. Clubs have their own inner-clubs ( such as Seniors, Arts, Sports, special projects etc ) and the actual club itself provides :

A safe, friendly environment
A variety of good, inexpensive food and beverages
Entertainment and a social interaction location

OK - so they're socially responsible - what about working there ?

What a Club is and represents is part of what you must acknowledge to work there. It is there for you as much as it's there for it's members. You become part of a community more than if you work in a pub or bar. You will see a lot of regulars who visit often. And some have an expectation that you work there for them ( often the "diggers" for which many Clubs were actually built.)

Clubs have a governing body of 10 or so directors who support a management team. Work for a club and you work for a lot of bosses. You will also have a well established framework under which you will work. The job description is clearly laid out and you will know what you are doing, where and when.

Other factors in considering a job in a club may include :

More reliable shifts
Clubs vary a lot in opening hours
You can focus on a more specific job role in a club
You are well supported by their union

You may have to deal with more demanding customers
There is a greater variety of job roles in Clubs
There are more prospects for advancement and supported training
There are strong career paths within Clubs
Clubs often provide "jobs for life"
You may feel more like a "number" than when working in a pub
Generally speaking, clubs provide a safer working environment
